Presenter Bios-February 28
Linda Rourke, MEd
Linda Rourke began her career in education more than 30 years ago as a high school English teacher. She is currently a National Education Consultant for DSC, working with K–8 administrators, coaches, and teachers who serve diverse populations across the country. Linda holds a BA in English and a MEd in Literacy Education from Northern Illinois University.
Tabatha Scharlach, PhD
Tabatha Scharlach has worked as an Assistant Professor of Reading Education at the University of Central Florida (UCF). At UCF she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in reading education, including Diagnosis and Development of Reading Proficiencies, Reading in the Content Areas, and Foundations of Reading. Tabatha has also been a coordinator and professional developer for Reading First Professional Development and a Research Associate for the Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence Center (FLaRE) at UCF. She has taught elementary school and was a Title I Reading Resource Teacher.
Dr. Taylar Wenzel, Ed.D.
Taylar is an Elementary Education Instructor at the University of Central Florida where she teaches a wide range of courses in reading and language arts education to teacher candidates at both the undergraduate and graduate level. She is the founder and co-director of the UCF Enrichment Programs in Literacy, which offer a reading clinic and motivational literacy camp to serve K-8 students in the Central Florida area. Her research interests include cognitive strategy use and transfer across literacy and mathematical contexts, in addition to exploring and changing educators’ perceptions of teaching for cognitive reciprocity at the elementary level. She regularly presents her work on this topic at regional, national, and international conferences for teachers and educational preparers. Taylar’s elementary experience ranges from second to fifth grade classroom teaching and work as a literacy specialist. She received her undergraduate and master’s degrees in elementary education from the University of Florida and doctoral degree in education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction from the University of Central Florida.
